Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

ICTCBL336 - Install and cut over metallic conductor cable to access network cabinet

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare for installation

  1. Obtain project plan to scope work and gain approval from customer on key features of installation
  2. Arrange access to site according to required enterprise procedure
  3. Inspect site to develop work health and safety (WHS) plan and notify appropriate personnel of identified safety hazards
  4. Determine cable route and type of network cable equipment from project plan, considering the location of other services
  5. Obtain required plant, tools, safety equipment and materials for cabinet entry
  6. Coordinate with other parties to minimise disruption to services and down time
  7. Segregate incoming and outgoing cables to facilitate access and avoid overlaying and backtracking of cable
  8. Notify stakeholders of proposed cut over details and proposed disruption to services
  9. Undertake additional preparatory non-jointing work, as required, according to customer practices and site conditions
